The Capsule - Issue 002: Welcome to The Studio!
Published 1st July 2026
Behind every prototype, product, and deployment is the space where ideas become physical. Through the month of June, we've been documenting that journey, not just the finished products, but the machines, experiments, conversations, and iterations that make building for African innovators possible.
01. A Look Inside Re-Build
This month, we opened the doors to our studio. From rows of 3D printers and fabrication tools to our design space and media room, this is where products are designed, tested, broken, rebuilt, and eventually deployed into the real world. Every build takes shape somewhere, for us, it's at The Studio.

02. Made by Re-Build: LightEd Pico
One of the products we are excited to share is Pico. Pico is a compact solar-powered lighting and charging system designed for off-grid households, small shops, and community spaces. It provides basic lighting and device charging where access to electricity is limited or unreliable. With a solar panel, rechargeable battery, low-energy bulbs, and multiple charging ports, Pico is built around a simple idea: everyday energy access should be practical, portable, and easy to deploy.

03. Made by Re-Build: Safara
We're also introducing Safara, a community-based security alert system designed for residential estates and neighbourhoods. Safara is built around a panic button and a long-range wireless mesh network. When triggered, alerts can move quickly through a community network, reaching neighbours, local responders, and security personnel. It is designed for places where safety depends not only on security infrastructure, but on how quickly a community can respond together.

05. What's Next?
We'll be taking you along on the next step in our journey. Sharing deep dives into our products, stories from The Studio, and introducing some of the builders working with us, are you looking forward to it? If you're interested in hardware, infrastructure, product design, or the future of African-built systems, you're in the right place.
